PRICED 1.25 BOOK HAS OFFSET SHADOW FROM A BOOKPLATE (REMOVED) ON THE FRONT PASTE-DOWN ENDPAPER, PREVIOUS OWNER'S NAME ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER, AND SOME MODEST SOIL TO REAR COVER BUT OTHERWISE WITHOUT ANY MARKS TO THE BINDING OR THE TEXT. D.J. HAS VERY SLIGHT LOSS TO THE CORNERS AND SPINE-ENDS BUT IS OTHERWISE CLEAN AND IS NOT PRICE-CLIPPED. QUITE A NICE COPY OF THE SCARCE TRUE FIRST EDITION. The first British edition was published 4 months after the Little Brown edition but the story had seen initial publication in periodical form as a supplement for an English newspaper and by the Atlantic Magazine.
