This first edition has been bound in a medium green cloth with fading gilt letters embossed on spine, covers are plain. There is no corner bumping and very little edge wear. Tail of the spine has chipped however, possibly slightly chewed but hard to tell. Hinges and gutters are solid, endpapers slightly shadowed. Interior text is quite clean and solid in it's binding. Numerous black and white illustrations tip-ins throughout the text. Frontis portrait plate is loosening bottom third. Duo fold map of McLean County, Illinois - 1856; this is in excellent condition.
