Item description from seller

First edition in publisher's original green card covers, black lettering to the spine and the upper panel. 8vo 8'' x 5¼'' 255 pp. Though she enjoyed writing all her life, Duncan did not seek publication until her husband's serious illness. Still in Jamaica, in need of money and facing the prospect of widowhood, she submitted a novel to an agent in London, and, when it was accepted, revealed that she had completed six further manuscripts. They became the first volumes in 'My Friends' series, which eventually comprised 19 titles. 'My Friends the Miss Boyds [1959], was an immediate success. This copy [along with others in stock] was purchased from a relative of an employee of Macmillan's, where it has remained untouched and unopened for over 40 years. Slight spine slant and in very near Fine condition, no dust wrapper as published. Member of the P.B.F.A. MODERN FIRST EDITIONS.
