Friedrich Nietzsche – Five Fine Bibliophile Editions – Limited Insel Editions – Facsimile – Press Books – 1947 Ariadne Description An exceptional collection of five carefully selected bibliophile editions devoted to Friedrich Nietzsche, spanning more than ninety years of book design and fine printing. The collection combines two limited Insel Verlag centenary editions, an important facsimile edition of Ecce homo, the scarce Basel private press edition of Klage der Ariadne (1947), and the finely printed Quartus edition Aus meinem Leben & dem unbekannten Gotte. Rather than being ordinary reading copies, these books represent outstanding examples of twentieth-century German book art and typography. Included are: 1. Also sprach Zarathustra Insel Verlag, Frankfurt am Main, 1999. Centenary edition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Insel Verlag. Limited to 1,000 copies. A magnificent reprint of the legendary 1908 Insel edition designed by G. Lemmen with typography executed under the direction of Harry Graf Kessler. Printed on Tintoretto mould-made paper, bound by Buchbinderei Lachenmaier, Reutlingen. ISBN 3-458-16994-6. 2. Ecce homo Insel Verlag. Limited anniversary edition of only 1,200 copies. A superb companion volume to the Zarathustra edition. ISBN 978-3-458-17022-8. 3. Ecce homo – Facsimile Edition of the Printer's Manuscript High-quality facsimile reproducing Nietzsche's original corrected printer's manuscript. Complete with the original publisher's slipcase. ISBN 978-3-88226-225-4. 4. Klage der Ariadne Klage der Ariadne. Gryff-Presse, Basel, 1947. Number 56 of only 100 copies. Eighth Papillons handpress printing, handset in Caslon Antiqua and printed on handmade Auvergne paper from the historic Richard-de-Bas paper mill. One of the more desirable post-war private press editions of Nietzsche. A clean and attractive copy showing only light signs of age appropriate to its publication date. 5. Aus meinem Leben & dem unbekannten Gotte Quartus Verlag. Limited edition. This copy is No. 507 of only 750 numbered copies. ISBN 978-3-936455-47-2.
