Per the Preface, "The extraordinary increase in the number of Chess Amateurs throughout the United States, during the past year, has induced the publisher to issue, in separate form, the article on Chess, from his book of general games published last year." A crisp, tight copy in the publisher's blind-stamped brown cloth; very good or better. Uneven fading to the front board, spine gilt mostly perished, and tiny ink doodle on the front paste-down, else a nice, clean copy. Filled with useful points on strategy, with perhaps two dozen inset engravings depicting chess boards. Quite scarce, with no recent auction records,T and OCLC records hopelessly muddled between physical and digital holdings. Seller Inventory # 10442
