Item description from seller

First 8 issues of this Freethought periodical from one of the movement's leading voices, Joseph McCabe (1867-1955). McCabe's writing was bitterly anti Catholic and drew upon his background as a Catholic priest in England. He wrote on evolution, slavery, spiritualism, and other topics, and defended his beliefs that Christianity was directly representative of ancient Pagan religions. Essays in these issues include "The Sham Revolution in Science," "Atheism in America and England," "The Nature of Psychic Evidence," "Science and Dialectical Materialism," "The Evergreen Lie about Slavery," "Modernizing Ancient Myth," and others. 8 volumes, 8vos, generally between 30 and 40pp each. Staple bound in colored paper wrappers, no. 1 in bright red and the others in various drab shades of beige or green. No. 3 with wrappers detached. else generally very good or better with occasional toning and rubbing to wraps.
