Add to basketFirst Edition (SD). Fairly rare book. And this one is in exceptional condition. Take a look at the photographs of the black covers. They are spotless. They have zero wear on the corners and edges. This book was published in 1938. The gilt lettering on the front cover and spine is very bright. The top page edge is a light orange. The worst that can be said about the covers is that there is a little crinkling at the spine ends. The spine is slightly slanted forward, however the binding of this book is very solid from beginning to end, no cracks, no spaces, no issues. The pages look terrific, exceptionally clean and without any wear of any kind, no creasing, no dogeared corners. They're also quite bright. They aren't toned or aged. Great paper. More good news: no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book and there aren't any markings or attachments. The only imperfection I found inside the book is on the rear inside cover, a tiny and slight surface scuff created by contact with a bit of adhesive from the protective dust jacket, my carelessness once upon a time, but fortunately with very minor effect. No doubt the dust jacket has done the job of protecting the book. Similarly the protective cover has done the job of protecting the dust jacket. Take a look of the first few photographs. The jacket is very clean. The colors are not faded. The only condition issue is the instances of scuffing/light peeling you can see, mostly off the front top edge and spine ends. The jacket's flaps are in excellent condition. The jacket is NOT price-clipped. I removed the protective cover and fitted the jacket, carefully, with a new one. From the dust jacket flap: ' Forbidden Path is an extraordinary novel. Set with a stinging reality against the background of an exclusive mental hospital, it tells the story of a young man's fight against himself. With complete frankness, the author describes the mysteries behind the austere doors. Then, in striking contrast to the narrative thread, like brief thunderbolts skilfully interposed, come the dramatic incidents of Bill Wheeler's crowded past.' Also in a quoted review on the front flap 'This "fiction" digs deeper into truth than fact writing ever could. It tears your heart, and then tells you something. It is hard-boiled, yet hope shines through. It's theme is salvation instead of damnation'.
