When the West Coast Eagles and the Brisbane Bears were accepted into an expanded VFl competition in 1987, the face of Australia football changed forever. For the first, games for premiership points were played outside of Victoria but in Western Australia the concept received a mixed reaction. Many football purists felt that the advent of the new franchise spelled the end of the state's premier competition, the Western Australian Football League, and refused to except the Eagles. Many others, who followed traditional Victorian clubs, quite often because of the expatriate West Australians play for that particular team, switched allegiance immediately. Since those early days, Rob Alexander's trail- blazers set a wonderful foundation, the West Coast Eagles have blossomed into arguably the most successful team in what is now the AFL. Much has changed since Alexander and his team confronted and conquered so many challenges in uncharted territory, to what we today see as a radically different competition. There are now two teams in each of W.A, S.A, NSW and Qld, with a new franchise, Greater Western Sydney, stepping into the competition in 2012. It is an exciting ara for the game., with the entry of GWS coming on the back of the debut season of the Gold Coast Sun in 2011. Those fledgling clubs have the benefit of calling on the experiences of other expansion teams in the last 25 years, and will doubtless put much of that learning into practice as the look to forge successful organisation. The West Coast Eagles, in particular, have travelled a remarkable journey, winning three premierships from five grand final appearances and blossoming into one of the most successful, respected and stable clubs in the competition. This book is designed to mark the 25th anniversary of the club, to celebrate the achievements, both collectively, and individually, for all who hold the club Dear. We recognise every player who has ever been a part of the club's list, provide details of every game West Coast has participated in, offering die fans the opportunity to reflect on an extraordinary quarter of a century. The aim is also to provide for future generations a reference point when they are driven to explore the roots of their club.…
