Here it is: A book of visual and verbal gems from the films of Abbott and Costello - a unique film book which may very well revolutionize the presentation of movie material in book form. It does for Abbott and Costello what no other volume about them has ever achieved - as direct a transition from film to book page as is humanly possible. Over 600 illustrations! All the photos in this book are frame blowups taken directly from the original negatives of the films. Editor Richard J. Anobile has faithfully reconstructed the classic scenes of Abbott and Costello and coupled the blow-ups with the original dialogue as spoken on the screen. This volume contains many of the famous Abbott and Costello bits that kept America in stitches for two decades, including the classic "Who's on First?" routine as originally performed: Abbott: They give ball players nowadays very peculiar names. on the St. Louis team we have Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know is on third. Costello: That's what I want to find out. I want you to tell me the name of the fellows on the St. Louis team. Abbott: I'm telling you. Who's on first. What's on second, I Don?t Know is on third. Costello: You know the fellows' names? Abbott: Yes. Costello: Well, then, who's playin' first? Abbott: Yes. Costello: I mean the fellow's name on first base. Abbott: Who. Costello: The fellow playin- first base for St. Louis. Abbott: Who. Costello: The guy on first base. Abbott: Who is on first. Costello.well. what are you askin' me for? Abbott: I'm not asking you - I'm telling you. Who is on first. Costello I??m askin? you - who's on first? Abbott: That's the man's name! Costello: That's who's name? Abbott: Yes. Costello: Well, go ahead and tell me! Abbott: Who. Costello: The guy on first. Abbott: Who. Costello: The first baseman. Abbott: Who is on first. Costello; Have you got a first baseman on first? Abbott: Certainly. Costello: Then who?s Playing first? Abbott: Absolutely. Richard J. Anobile, 25, has an all-consuming interest in films. He has edited a book of famous W.C. Fields one-liners titled "Drat!" as well as the first in this unique series of film books, "Why a Duck?", which dealt with the Marx Brothers. His second book in this series, on the subject of W. C. Fields, "A Flask of Fields" has just been published. Anobile is a graduate of the City University of New York Institute of Film Technique and heads a film production and distribution company in New York City Aside from going into feature production, Anobile will continue to expand this film book series as well as other film books for the general public and the serious film student.
