Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Lacking half title. Written by English polymath Herbert Spencer, known for his works surrounding philosophy, psychology, biology and sociology. Along with Charles Darwin, Spencer contributed greatly to the field of evolution, and became known for originating the expression "survival of the fittest".'First Principles' is the groundwork behind Spencer's theory of synthetic philosophy, with the aim of highlighting the links between philosophy, biology, psychology, religion and sociology. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Externally, generally smart, with some bumping to the board extremities and rubbing to leather. Small tears to the joint heads, with backstrip lifting a little to the head. Front hinge is strained. Light spots to endpapers. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound.
