Andy Warhol First Edition 1967 Index (Book) With All Ten 3D Novelties + The Elusive Silver Balloon First published in 1967 bound in a flexible card cover stamped in metallic silver and black ink, often favored by fans of the era because the silver boards mirrored the aesthetic of Warhol's Silver Factory studio and his iconic Silver Balloons exhibition. An original Warhol Silver Balloon was bound into the gutter of the book between pages 52 and 53 when it was first published. London antiquarian Peter Harrington is presently offering this book with a "loose balloon" at £10,000.00. The provenance of a loose balloon should be carefully considered when in 1967 Random House openly announced the balloon was bound into the book spine (gutter). Instead of being loosely inserted, glued or tucked into a pocket, the silver latex balloon was laid flat across pages 52 and 53 and stitched/glued into the book gutter. As a result the balloon could not be removed from the gutter without destroying the book or the balloon itself. However the original balloon in this book is still complete and present on the exact page where it was first bound in 1967, with Warhol pictured below still figuratively holding the balloon. The balloon is not covered with cellophane or mylar so you can still see it and interact with it. The adjoining pages previously had chemical residue from balloon decay and as a result a balloon shaped area was restored and the spoilt paper surface replaced, please refer to the large photographs provided. 3D NOVELTY INVENTORY, PLEASE READ This volume serves as the most authoritative, diaristic record of Warhol's original Midtown Manhattan studio, The Factory. It is packed with gritty, stream of consciousness black and white snapshots captured by legendary insider photographers like Billy Name, Nat Finkelstein and a young Stephen Shore, all of which could justifiably be framed in their own right - as could the balloon page. A 45 RPM flexi-disc record: A playable insert featuring a portrait of Lou Reed containing a recording of Nico and others chatting about the book over fragments of Velvet Underground songs. There has a light crease in the surface which is barely visible on the photos. A squeaking accordion: Built into a folded page and designed to produce a sound (humorously intended to sound like a flatulence joke) when the book is opened. This is in excellent condition but only creates a sound intermittently. A "do-it-yourself" fold-out nose: A triple-page rainbow illustration of a nose with a pink overlay. In excellent condition. A pop-up medieval castle: Pulled from a Hallmark promotional template, it features Warhol's Superstars and remains in very good condition. A pop-up biplane: Sourced from an international graphics promotional piece, complete and in excellent condition. A "spring-loaded" paper disc: A circular card attached to a wire spring labeled for The Chelsea Girls film. In excellent shape. A geodesic dodecahedron: A 3D paper sculpture attached to a string and a rubber band. Still present and in excellent condition. Moisture-sensitive paper tabs: Eight tabs designed to look like sheets of LSD stamps. These tabs are stuck to the page which has a balloon shaped restorative repair. Good condition. A 60's Warhol Silver Balloon: The elusive silver balloon bound directly into the gutter.
