AUTHOR: Michael Linning, Writer to the Signet WS (1774-1838), Scottish solicitor who wrote The First Book of Napoleon The son of Thomas Linning and grandson of the Rev Thomas Linning, Minister of Lesmahogow He attended Glasgow College from 1788 to 1793 The First Book of Napoleon is a pseudo-biblical work written under the pen name "Eliakim the Scribe" A pre-publication manuscript copy at the State Library of New South Wales identifies Michael Linning as the author As a Writer to Her Majestys Signet, Linnings role was very similar to the ancient biblical role of scribe. BOOK RESUME: Account of the Napoleonic Wars composed in the style of the King James Bible. The narrative describes the French Revolution, Napoleons rise to power, hostilities between France and Britain, and specific events of the war including the destruction of the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile.
