Original lilac cloth, lettered and decorated in black. Cloth generally sunned, faint stamp (Joint Fiction Reserve) on verso of title page, poor quality wartime paper lightly browned throughout, good. Dane wrote some 30 novels up to 1965, but probably achieved her greatest success writing screenplays for the cinema. First the Blade was her second novel: uncommon.
