1950. First English Edition. 170 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth with red lettering to spine and red Moomin illustration to front board. Note: a cracked reading copy, please see full description. The first Moomin novel to be translated into English. Translation by Elizabeth Portch. With B&W illustrations throughout, and a fold-out map of Moomin Valley. Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Gutters somewhat cracked and hinges shaky, with some exposed netting. Pencil inscription to front endpaper. Approx 1 inch tear to map. A few dog-eared corners. Slight liquid marks to several pages: text remains legible throughout. Boards have some edge wear, with mild bumping and fraying to corners, while spine ends are moderately crushed and frayed. Approx 1 inch split to front joint; some smaller splits too.
