One of Goytisolo's early novels, the story of Fiestas unfolds during a religious festival in an unnamed Spanish city. Juxtaposing the rich pageantry of the celebration with the poverty and tragedy of Spain's lost and injured people, this powerful novel paints the drama of Spain using a neorealist style. Juan Goytisolo was a Spanish poet, essayist, and novelist who won the prestigious Cervantes Prize in 2014 and was widely considered to be Spain's greatest living writer at the beginning of the 21st century. His left-wing views and opposition to Francisco Franco led to his long-lasting, self-imposed exile from Spain in the late 1950s. Seller Inventory # 0020780
