A first edition, first printing, published by Methuen in 1955. A very good book with internals free from inscriptions, some minor ghosting on the front free end paper, slight browning and spotting to the text block, with front board, spine and rear panel in general good condition. In a very good unclipped dust wrapper with some chips to knuckles of front and rear upper and lower panel folds, chips to the head and base of the spine and minor internal browning and ghosting to the front flap and rear panel. The dust wrapper executed beautifully by John Minton. Few Were Left is a gripping World War II novel that follows a diverse group of Allied soldiers stranded behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied Italy. As they navigate the treacherous landscape and evade capture, tensions rise among the men, testing their loyalty and resolve. Rein skilfully depicts the harsh realities of war, weaving together themes of courage, sacrifice and the human spirit's resilience in the face of adversity, creating a compelling and unforgettable narrative.
