Featuring a colour frontispiece and eight further monochrome plates by significant maritime artist Norman Wilkinson. Collated, complete. With a thirty-two-page publisher's catalogue to the rear. An insightful history of important Naval duels throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including the 1779 Bonhomme Richard v. Serapis, 1795 Blanche v. Pique and 1813 Shannon v. Chesapeake events. Written by Hugh Burdett Money-Coutts, the sixth Baron Latymer, a Royal Navy Reserve lieutenant, who was active in politics and authored a few other works, including The Broads and Chances and Changes. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor bumping and rubbing, resulting in minimal loss of cloth to the extremities and a slight dent to the fore edge. Internally, generally firmly bound, a little weaker around pages 64, 178 and 224. Reasonably bright and clean, a little age toned, with the odd spot, visibly heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good. …
