[1741] 2 parts in one volume, 8vo, pp xiv, [2],123,[3];[2],324, a few place settings in text, bound in contemporary polished calf, spine with raised bands. First Edition. CONDITION: spine lacking label, worn and chipped at lower foot however sound. Corners of boards slightly worn. Modern replacement endpapers, minor soiling and signs of use throughout text however still a very good sound copy, especially for a cookery book of this period. Further comments At the end of the preface our anonymous author writes 'being still teized for some name, I will, tho' not my right one, subscribe that of Arabella Atkyns. So far no one has actually pinned down her actual name, but she was clearly an amateur cook, and states that the medical portion, which is longer than the cookery was taken from the manuscript commonplace book of her brother, a physician. 'The cookery part is well arranged, the medical part is full of horrors.' - Oxford. The first of at least three printings, all quite scarce. SIZE: 205 x 130 mm.
