HARDBACK full calf with gilt rules on covers expertly re-backed with new spine label vignette title-page pages: [viii] 173; [v] 155 full-page woodcut for each fable (l & xvi) 190mm x 248mm (7.5 x 9.75") covers and corners lightly rubbed one or two very light spots to preliminaries offsetting of small label to upper corner of title-page. British Bee Books No. 91a. John Gay (1685-1732) was the author (1728) of the Beggars Opera. In the Publisher's Advertisement of this 2nd Vol. it states "These fables were finished by Mr Gay and intended for the Press a short time before his death." which was 1732. The sixteen fables are all dedicated to an individual character - ie. "Fable I - To a Lawyer" "Fable XI - To a Young Nobleman" "Fable X - The Degenerate Bees" etc.
