With legislative and historical records from the Reconstruction epoch, Halbrook shows the intent of the Fourteenth Amendment and of civil rights legislation to guarantee equal rights to blacks, including the right to keep and bear arms, and more. Minutely rubbed to the edges, else very nearly fine, square and tight in cranberry linen with gilt embossed titles and borders, to black panels to the front cover and to the spine, red-and-yellow headband and tail-band; no dust jacket, as issued. A handsome book production. Octavo; 230 pages; plus preface; bibliography; index.
