1st 1955. Almost very good condition in a dustwrapper in fair condition. A quite enchanting story of a colony of gnomes who live in the vast Forest of Boland, quarrying in their mines for precious metals with the aid of the Boland Belle of the Forest Light Railway. One day a mischievous leprechaun leads a band of followers in an attempt to break up the railway. Humour and excitement is captured with ingenious detail in BB's superb b/w illustrations and colour frontis. Blue pictorial boards. 127 pages. Spine and corners bumped. Fading to top and tail of spine and some slight fading to lower cover edges. Endpapers lightly browned. Dustwrapper is edge chipped with some loss and more substantial loss to base of spine and lower edge of rear panel (1"). Dustwrapper is also slightly grubby. In very good condition, dust wrapper clipped and lightly worn at ends of the spine and corners, edges lightly spotted, some slight scattered foxing. 127pp, with charming black and white illustrations throughout, this delightful little book tells the tale of the gnomes of the Forest of Boland, their efforts to build a railway and their battles against the vicious Shera Beg & his villainous leprechauns (who are nothing like the jolly little Irish version of the same).
