ERIC LEYLAND: Born September 22, 1911, Ilford, Essex, England, Died March 28, 2001. - Eric A. Leyland was a very prolific British author of series books and other books for young readers. He was born on September 22, 1911, in Ilford, Essex, and was the son of a clergyman. He attended Brentwood School and University College, London, and worked as Chief Librarian in Chingford, Essex (1938-1946), and Walthamstow (1946-1949). Afterwards he shared with his wife the position of principal of Normanhurst School in Chingford. Leyland wrote more than 100 books, from 1940 to 1967. [inscribed on the first blank endpage in blue ink]: Xmas 1949 - CONDITION: The original dustjacket accompanies this book. The dustjacket is creased around the extremities, and the top of the spine has a couple of small chips. There are quite a few closed edge tears, but these are not so noticeable since the dustjacket is housed in a removable plastic archival sleeve. The lighter areas to the rear and the inner prelims are soiled in general. - The main character of the story is smoking, which is illustrated in the imagery on the front of the dustjacket. - Boards are light beige cloth with dark brown lettering to the front board and spine. Very light browning to the edges otherwise very clean and tightly bound to the page block. The story has 216 pages and these are very clean indeed. There is a very occasional soil mark but the text is not affected by this in any way. - The story is accompanied with several black and white drawings. - The colour frontispiece is beautifully vibrant. - END - Our orders are shipped within 1 or 2 business days. - Thanks for your interest.
