Richard Rowley was the pseudonym of Richard Valentine Williams (1877-1947) a writer of poems, plays and stories. Richard Rowley was the pseudonym of Richard Valentine Williams (2 April 1877 25 April 1947),.of Belfast, Ireland, who wrote poetry, plays and stories. During World War II, Rowley founded, and ran from his Newcastle home, the short-lived Mourne Press, about which he wrote this: "The Mourne Press has been founded mainly to give encouragement to the younger writers of Ulster. Its aim is cultural, and not commercial. / If any profits result from the publications a fund will be created to enable us to issue the works of new writers, who under present conditions find it difficult to introduce themselves to their audience; but it will always be the aim of the Press to maintain a high literary standard." He went on to list the volumes he hoped to publish within the next twelve months; this list included the writers Forrest Reid; A.E.J. Nugent; Michael M'Laverty; Lynn Doyle; Arthur Harvey; Sam Hanna Bell; John Hewitt; Jack Loudan; Denis Ireland; John Irvine; Thomas Carnduff; Patrick MacDonogh; George Galway . Willoughby Weaving".
