This work is an absorbing account of one of the great rivalries in the early Republic. Hamilton and Burr emerge as complex human beings and the author helps us understand the fatal mix of personality, background, and politics that brought them to that final confrontation at Weehawken. The book contains notes, bibliography, and an index. This HARDCOVER copy is clean and solid.

Review
Rogow's fascinating book, which includes sensational sex and enough indecent innuendos and appalling allegations to rival those of our own age . . . contains page after page of poignant, hilarious and revealing quotations and meditations (Sarah Booth Conroy, The Washington Post).
Carefully researched and soberly argued . . . a thoughtful and valuable statement about the vagaries of moral and historical understanding. "Richard Bernstein, The New York Times"
