Heavier tanning and foxing to front and rear. Cracking to gutters, with exposed netting. Front hinge cracked with exposed netting. Binding is weakened. Pencil inscriptions to pastedowns. Some annotations and markings to text, including large ink spots to pages 138-139. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Book has a slight backward lean. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition. 253pp. Black cloth with printed cover and spine labels. A few pages lightly foxed, boards with slight wear to the extremities, spine and label modestly tanned, very good, lacking the dust jacket. A selection of letters divided into three categories: The British Spirit, The Universal Spirit and The American Spirit, plus a foreword and editorial postscript by the author.
