Quarto (10 1/2 x 8"). [4], 519, [1]pp. Modern full cloth with gold lettering to spine. Published shortly after the author's death, Claudius Buchanan's "Evangelia Sancta, necnon Acta Apostolorum Syriace, cum Interpretatione Latina" is a Latin translation of the New Testament from a very old manuscript written in Estrangelo Syriac. The Syriac text is printed in two columns with Tremellius' Latin version (also in double columns) at the foot of the page (Darlow & Moule 8977). Ex-library copy with stamp on both fly leaves. Contemporary previous owner's name and inscription dated 1836 on first fly leaf, and previous owner's name and inscription dated 1861 on the Syriac title page (not affecting lettering). Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Text in Syriac and Latin. Binding in overall very good, interior in good+ to very good condition. Seller Inventory # 42645

Missionswissenschaftlers Claudius Buchanan (1766-1815) ist eine Bearbeitung der 4 Evangelien und der Apostelgeschichte des Lukas nach einer frühen syrischen Handschrift, dem Estrangelo. Der (vorangestellte) syrisch-aramäische Text ist zweispaltig gedruckt, im unteren Drittel der Seite steht, ebenfalls zweispaltig, seine lateinische Entsprechung, die der protestant. Theologe Immanuel Tremellius (1510-1580), ein Proselyt aus Ferrara, angefertigt hatte. - Einband stark berieben, Leder teils mit größeren Insektenfraßspuren, auch an den Außengelenken; Vorsätze an den Rändern durch Leder gebräunt, der feste Buchblock stellenw. stockfleckig u. schwach gebräunt.
