Very rare first edition of 1873, in the original binding of tan cloth with gilt title on the spine and gilt title plus gilt drawing of Vesuvius erupting on the front. 148 pages all checked and present. 8 plates present, and in very good condition, including one folding, as called for, but there appears to be an original binder's error in that there is no plate VA but there are 2 copies of plate V11A. Text in very good, tight, clean condition, with only a little very light browning/foxing of the title page. The binding is in very good+, tight condition, with minor fading in places. Mallet's important introduction, published here for the first time, occupies the first 78 pages. See photographs attached. (BMGAS).

Please note that the default ABE shipping charges do not necessarily apply and that in most cases my shipping charges are considerably less. The rate for first-class Royal Mail letter post or parcel post within the UK is often specified with the item description.
