Mendelsohn a world renowned German architect, known for his expressionist architecture in the 1920s, as well as for developing a dynamic functionalism in his projects for department stores and cinemas. Portfolio is in like new condition and is still in the original custom pasteboard box (which has fragile corners and shows aging). Cover and plates are in Fine condition. Housed in a printed brown stiff-stock portfolio. Folio. 14" x 10-7/8". 1st edition. Limited to 500 copies., this #473. 3 p.l., 32 b/w images on heavy cream colored paper stock, reproducing expressionistic architecture drawings in their original small size from 50 years of Mendelsohn's architectural production: text identifying each project on verso. This copy was purchased directly from Louise Mendelsohn and she said it was secretly printed by Andrew Hoyem at a printing press at the San Francisco Presidio while it was a US Military post.
