About this Item
12mo. Pp. iv, 319. Bound in stiff printed wraps. Cocked, with corners worn and wear to tail of spine. Old bookseller tag on title page ("Tauzy, Levy & Co." 6 Post Street, San Francisco). Although precedence isn't established, the British edition, purported to be the first printing, was published the same year. If so, it must have predated this imprint's date of "May, 1891." According to critics, Haggard's ability to conjure a fantastic environment was particularly successful here, populating the storyline with doomed figures amid the saga's 10th century Viking setting. As a side note, Stanley Kubrick's daughter is on record stating his father was smitten with the novel, had wished to bring it to the screen. Albeit a bit worn, a presentable copy with condition commensurate with age. Seller Inventory # 6991
