Octavo; publisher's plum blind-embossed cloth, gilt-lettered spine; 297,[1],2,6,6pp. Very light wear to cloth extremities, spine toned to brown, textblock rather foxed, contemporary ownership inscription to front pastedown, else a Very Good, bright and sound copy. Collection of seven lectures delivered to the Society for the Employment and Relief of the Poor, covering the lives and works of Swift, Pope, Hogarth, Stern, and many others. This edition concludes with the essay "Charity and Humour" not found in the first English edition. VAN DUZER 60.
