The first printing of the first American edition, issued a year after the English edition. 8vo. viii, 340pp. Blue cloth lettered, ruled and decorated in gold at the spine, with the publisher's motif gilt-stamped to the upper board. Some toning to the front free endpaper, where it would appear a clipping was once stored. Contemporary ownership signature of Robert Vanderbilt to the front free endpaper. Very good indeed in the quite uncommon dust wrapper, non-price-clipped but toned, rubbed and chafed, with an inch of loss from the head of the spine panel, a touch of further loss from the corner tips, and one carefully repaired tear. The author's second book, part an observation of English literature and the English literary scene, and part autobiographical account of his early life.
