The boards have quite heavy rubbing along the bottom edges where there is surface fraying. The corners are a little rubbed and bumped but the boards are otherwise clean and unmarked. Browning to the page edges with a little dark marking to the bottom corners. The front free endpaper has the bookplate of Anthony Edwards, Life Fellow of Gonville & Caius College and retired Professor of Biometry at the University of Cambridge. This book was part of his collection of Cambridge books which was a reflection of his keen and active interest in the governance of the Collegiate University. The endpapers are a little browned with some scattered small dark marks. The pages have some slight browning but are otherwise clean and unmarked. The jacket has had both the top and bottom corner of the front flap snipped off neatly - this may have been done by the publisher. No jacket. First printing.
