First American edition. Translated by Velma Swanston Howard. Early pictorial bookplate with typed name on the front pastedown. Binding cocked and front cover slightly bowed, light wear at the corners and spine ends, faint evidence of a stain on the topedge at the foredge corner with about a third of the text with a tiny faint marginal stain there, a bright very good copy in a corner-clipped (no price showing), tanned and dampstained, sound but good only dust jacket with several tiny nicks and tears. Lagerlöf was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Seller Inventory # 527677
