Jack Bender is a storyteller. Sometimes this takes the form of painting in his home studio in Los Angeles, sometimes this means directing or producing award-winning television dramas like The Sopranos, Lost, and Game of Thrones. Bender's vibrant first book, The Elephant in the Room, is a collection of stories told through his art, a lyrical interweaving of abstraction, rich color and texture, and surreal dreaminess. With themes of morality, identity, love, loss, death, and birth, these stories are tender and intimate, but cut with Bender's biting humor and a master storyteller's sense of irony.

Review
From the fertile mind of Jack Bender comes another imaginative, delightful tale, full of characters more colorful than anyone you know in your own life. It is sophisticated and sweet, much like the man himself. J.J. Abrams"
"If ever there was a children's book for adults only, this is the one: sweet and surreal, playfully Picasso, and full of cockeyed wisdom. I was charmed, and I'm giving the damn thing to everyone. I think you'll do the same. My advice is grab a copy immediately. Yesterday, if possible." --Stephen King "From the fertile mind of Jack Bender comes another imaginative, delightful tale, full of characters more colorful than anyone you know in your own life. It is sophisticated and sweet, much like the man himself." --J.J. Abrams "[Jack Bender's] in-your-face illustrations command attention... offer[ing] a potent mix of life's dark realities and the human drive to overcome." --The Boston Globe "An accumulation of some of [Jack Bender's] best work." --VICE "A far softer work than anything on Lost or Thrones but none less gorgeous for it, a collection of odd-ball images and simple stories of self-discovery that prove Mr. Bender is just as adept with a paint brush or pen than he is at wrangling ten ton dragons." --New York Observer "Bender's bawdy, whimsical, and honest artwork complements his weird and wonderful tales perfectly... Sometimes delightful and sometimes haunting, it is a book unlike any other in your library." --David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of HBO's Game of Thrones
