xii - 482 pages + 16-page publishers' catalogue large folding map at end with old repair to verso off the map and a closed tear approx. 10 cm. Inscription to top margin of ½ title dated 1863 -1868. Recased with new end papers in the publisher's brown blind stamped cloth. Petherick, a contemporary of Baker, Burton, and Speke, travelled along the Nile Valley through Kordofan and into the unknown region beyond. Contains some hunting incidents hunting Gazelle, Buffalo and rhinoceros, with a description of a nati0ve hunt for elephants. Czech p129 £225. Seller Inventory # 21897
