About this Item
First edition, first printing of the autobiography of the woman Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dubbed as the "Mother of the Movement," whose civil rights activism focused on voter registration, citizen education, and women's rights. While teaching in the Sea Islands off South Carolina she developed innovative methods to teach adults to read rapidly using common items such as the Sears catalogue. These methods would come in handy in the Citizenship Schools she is famous for designing, which taught Black Americans in the South how to fully exercise their rights and lead others. Bound in publisher's cloth, Near Fine with several pencil markings throughout. In a Near Fine price-clipped dust jacket with toning, light rubbing and a few spots of soil or scuffs. Uncommon.
