Item description from seller

The author, a prominent American journalist and author, after many years' experience as a correspondent in China, founded the China Press, a Shanghai daily newspaper. His sympathies for the Nationalist cause and the Kuomintang party facilitated unprecedented access to Sun Yat-Sen, the party founder and first President of the Republic of China. In the present volume Millard provides a first-hand account of the Chinese revolution, its plans for reconstruction and the risks associated with an increasingly aggressive Japan. He ends the volume with a plea for support of the fledgling Nationalist government from America. Of additional reference value are the 26 appendices to the work that reproduce all of the important proposals, conventions, agreements and treaties between China, the Japanese and Western powers that were then in effect. Spine darkened, EPs lightly toned. Binding otherwise remains tight and strong; interior pages all clean and bright - a very good plus copy. [xii], 543 pp., 66 b&w photos, 4 maps (1 fold-out), appendices. Size: 21 x 14 cm. …
