ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1928). (1600) 1928 new edition. Small 4to (186 x 250mm). Pp[iv],iv,24. B/w photograph frontispiece of first edition title-page. Grey cloth-backed paper-covered boards, white paper title-label printed in black to upper board, spine untitled. Corners rubbed & boards slightly chipped. A good copy. The first edition, published in 1600, is a great rarity. "John Taverner's treatise, small in volume though it may be. is in its own way a masterpiece. It belongs to an age when men were content to copy down from other books statements which they themselves had not verified, when they believed the fabulous and repeated the impossible. And there in contrast to that ready acceptance of myth and invention, stands Certaine Experiments concerning Fish and Fruite, an exact transcript from personal experience accurately recorded 'for the benefit of others,' and a model of correct inference from observed facts. .As an observing and recording field naturalist, John Taverner stands centuries in advance of his time." (From the introduction by Eric Parker). .…
