Item description from seller

First Printing. 100pp. 8vo, blue cloth, gilt spine lettering. Color frontispiece and b/w illustations throughout. Lacking the dust jacket. 'Eric Cunningham Dax was chairman of the Mental Hygiene Authority in Victoria from 1952 to 1969. From the 1940s onwards he has maintained an interest in the practice of art and today, at the age of ninety-one, holds a collection of 'psychiatric art' that consists largely of pieces produced by patients in Melbourne's psychiatric hospitals since 1955. In this collection are approximately 9000 drawings, paintings, embroideries and models. Currently housed in the Mental Health Research Institute in Melbourne, it is open to the public by appointment and regularly visited by medical students. It is also displayed, on request, for community education about mental illness.' (Belinda Robson, 'A History of the Cunningham Dax Collection of 'Psychiatric Art': From Art Therapy to Public Education').
