Mathematical Instrument Maker to His Majesty, and Optician to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, n°60, Fleet Street, London". Scrisse vari testi divulgativi, i cui obiettivi erano, secondo "The Gentleman's Magazine", la confutazione empirica dei "growing errors of materialism, infidelity, and anarchy". Gli scopi della pubblicazione sono così espressi dall'autore nella Prefazione: "One of the principal ends of it [the following essay] is to do away a general prejudice in favour of spectacles, namely, that they [the readers] act as preservers; a prejudice which has caused numbers to use glasses, before they could be of any essential service . The nature of the essay has given me an opportunity of ponting out rules for the preservation of the sight, and avoiding what may be hurtful to it .". > Wellcome, II, 13. Stephen, "Dictionary of National Biography", 97. 400 gr. Seller Inventory # 160051
