McPhee's telling of the confrontations of militant environmentalist David Brower (founder of Friends of the Earth, etc) over mineral exploration on Western wilderness lands, development of Hilton Head oceanfront, and the damning of the Grand Canyon. Signed by the book's subject - the Archdruid himself, David Brewer - on the half tile with an unrelated inscription dated 1975 on the front pastedown from an identifiable individual to Springfield MA conservationist Helen C White, for whom a conservation area in that New England city is named. This title signed by Brewer is quite uncommon. Dustjacket spine a wee sunnned, else near fine all over.
