Item description from seller

First edition, 1895. Very good, in handsome green cloth binding. Amusing prefatory note characterizing the 'anonymous' author of the work as a scholar and a mystic. "In no other western publication, have the three 'states' of man's consciousness been so strikingly and so intelligently set forth as by our author". Exquisitely complex as always, the book combines first, second and third person narratives in a mystic commentary, with some original translation, on the tales of the great Hindu Ramayana.
