Item description from seller

143pp, index, biliog, chronolgy, 110 ills (40 col). Or grey cloth in jacket. As new copy. Davis was once described as the ace of America's Modernists, and regarded drawing as central to his art. He believed that all his works were drawings and developed his images as carefully adjusted black and white "configurations" which he translated to "color-space compositions" only at the last stage of the painting procedure. This volume examines the full range of Davis' activity as draftsman, from early naturalistic drawings in the manner of the Ashcan School to the economical near abstractions of his maturity. Published to coincide with a 1993 exhibition of the same name. Size: Oblong 4to.
