III, affecting fore-edges and most noticeable on first c. 70pp., with faint damp-rippling to later pages. Blindstamp of Royal Institute of Great Britain to t.p. of vol. IV. Loose typescript slip to vol. I with information on Cibber. This is the first edition of Cibber's dramatic works published as a complete set - the single earlier edition was published as a four-volume set in 1760, with a further volume published separately in 1761. Colley Cibber (1671-1757), actor, writer, theatre manager, and poet laureate; 'the true originator of the sentimental comedy in English', and still acclaimed as 'a major comic actor and an innovative theatre manager' (ODNB).
