Pages starting to embrown, dustwrapper slightly faded at spine. With the marginal pencillings and underlinings of (Sir) Michael Holroyd in the text, and his manuscript notes on rear blanks; loosely inserted two autograph correspondence cards signed from Susanna Gross, the author's literary-editor daughter (and the book's co-dedicatee), commissioning a review for The Mail on Sunday, three sheets of Holroyd's autograph draft for it, his typed draft with autograph corrections, 5pp. 4to, his finished typed text, 3pp. 4to, and a news-cutting of the published article, 18 March 2001 - "A Double Thread is quietly written, painstaking, subtle and deeply satisfying to read. Gross, who has also written a fascinating study of Shylock and an engaging description of English literary life since Victorian times (as well as becoming editor of that most English institution the Times Literary Supplement), has shown in his career how it is possible to have the best of both cultures.".
