Hardback. First Edition. Slight foxing to end inside covers and edge and back D/J. Slight shelf wear to top edge of D/J. Price clipped. This book offers final proof that there's no limit to the ingenuity of crooks and no shortage of co-operative suckers. The author's evidence ranges all the way from that conscientious international counterfeiter called the Dutchman, whose home-made product passed muster with Scotland Yard's approval, to Olga Simanski, who collected husbands much as other women collect milk glass. Whether you prefer bizarre characters like Mrs. Oesterreich's built-in lover, or distinguished swindlers like 'Sir Richard Douglas', or such absolutely incredible ones as the respected Madam of Oxford, you'll find them here. In short, this book is a collection of history's most spectacular, talented and colourful bamboozlers, whose adventures make more exciting reading than any fiction. 381 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.). …
