Companion volume to Duffield's translation of 'Don Quixote as The Ingenious Knight Don Quixote de la Mancha, a New Translation from the Originals of 1605 and 1608', also published in 1881. Duffield's goal for his translation was to "enable all classes of reader to see the Ingenious Knight through a clean glass". This companion volume by Duffield helped to further that goal, giving insight and explanation, and making his interpretation of the story of Don Quixote more easily understood by readers with a less literary background. Deeply sun-toned red cloth spine and boards with beveled edges and simple copper lettering. The spine has a bit of chipping at the head and the corners are lightly bumped but otherwise, this book has very little wear. It is 5 inches x 7½ inches; 153 pages, with an additional 32 pages listing C. Kegan Paul & Co. publications in the back. It is clean and tight with no marks, and the leaves of the book are all still joined at the folds and unopened. An 1881 First Edition in remarkable condition. Please see all images.
