Half calf over moire boards, G. xii+407pp, leather split along the upper hinge & spine loose, internally fine. Epistolatory collection of moral & religious advice intended to encourage a pious life. The book is a rather morbid collection of letters & recollections with many passages of young adults embracing death as if something to be welcomed. Fry was rector of Emberton, Buckinghamshire, and a Tutor at Lincoln College Oxford. Legh Richmond [ 1772 - 1827 ] was a popular writer upon English Domestic life [ The Dairymans Daughter ] & is said to have invented the now universal idea of displaying the Hymns to be sung during Service on a board with moveable numbers. According to some biographies he had only two children, Wilberforce & Nugent, who did indeed die before him. 750 grams.
