"DOMBEY AND SON" by Charles Dickens. 1848 1st edition; Bradbury and Guild; Boston. With numerous full-page illustrated plates by H.K. Browne. Three-quarter leather binding with gilt lettering and 5 raised bands on the spine. Marbled end papers and marbled page edges on all sides. Condition: Some scuffing to the leather on the spine; worn corners; there is a 1" tear at the top-right corner of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. The illustration after page 156 has a large piece missing at the bottom-left corner.the illustration is not affected, though the descriptive text is. Old "Private Library" label affixed to the front pastedown. Pages 5-8 are present but have detached. The pages are mostly clean with only some mild foxing. A blank front end paper has an old name label affixed and "No. 291" written in pen. Page 9 has a name/date (1868) written in pencil in the outer margin. Seller Inventory # ABE-1634137901213
