About this Item
(price-clipped) [moderate shelfwear, light bumping to bottom corners, light soiling to top edge, front hinge feels a little loosey-goosey; jacket worn at edges, small tears & minor paper loss at several corners and top of spine (no text loss), short piece of old scotch tape stuck to rear panel]. Very uncommon urban comic novel, "the delicious story of what happened when a collection of sophisticated, if gaily neurotic, New York characters found themselves collectively engaged in 'doing over' an East Side firehouse into a dwelling place." The wackiness starts when Clarissa Yearling, "the painter without a subject," took a look around Mike Mooney's bar on Third Avenue, "decided that Mike Mooney looked like a Rouault and that Mooney's would be to her what the Moulin Rouge was to Lautrec and McSorley's was to Sloan." The author's first book; near as I can tell, he wrote only one other, a piece of historical fiction called "Out of Carthage," published in 1964. Seller Inventory # 15158
